Do you want to play a part in making your community stronger through relationship building?

Fair Trade Calgary is running a campaign to make Calgary
a Fair Trade Town.

In order to apply for this status, we need to meet the following requirements:

A minimum number of retailers and grocers (133) offer at least two Fairtrade products
A minimum number of restaurants and cafes (67) offer at least two Fairtrade products
A minimum number of community groups (59), including schools, faith groups, associations, etc. support fair trade
Support from municipal government
A Steering Committee who will guide the vision of Fair Trade Calgary in the future

Erin Bird, Calgary

Erin Bird is a Senior Planning Engineer by day at The City of Calgary Water Resources. Her second "job" right now is to lead the campaign for Calgary to become a Fair Trade Town. Fair Trade Calgary sits within Engineers Without Borders Calgary Professional Chapter, and the group has been working hard over the last couple of years to achieve the Fair Trade Town designation. Erin's other hobbies are cooking with Fairtrade ingredients, dancing in Fairtrade banana costumes, and she also enjoys reading while drinking Fairtrade tea and relaxing with family and friends.

Joy Akaa, Calgary

Joy is a supply chain professional with a legal background. She understands the gap analysis between the supply networks of farmers in developing economies and competitive international markets as well as the linkages needed to bridge the gap necessary to create a mutually beneficial relationship for both groups. She feels privileged to be a 2017 Fair Trade Ambassador as it will create avenues to spread the gospel about fair trade in Canada.

CALL TO ACTION

We need Community Ambassadors

Community Ambassadors help with the effort of Outreach to Retailers, Grocers, Restaurants, Cafes, and Community groups.

It is hard to individually reach out to each and every business owner in Calgary to see if they offer fair trade product. Community Ambassadors would help make light of the task by focusing their efforts in the community they live in, and then feed the information back to the campaign committee.
We want this campaign to be more than just number counting. We want to establish relationships with businesses who support fair trade and tell their stories. Community Ambassadors provide a personal relationship opportunity that goes beyond just the campaign.

You will be able to attend fun networking sessions, share stories with other Community Ambassadors, and attend celebration functions
You will learn more about fair trade and have the inside scoop on where to find fair trade products in Calgary
You will create a stronger community by getting to know businesses in your community
You will be empowering Fairtrade producers to better their lives by making their products more readily available in Calgary
You will be recognized as a contributor to the Campaign.
